CHARLESTON, S.C. — Attendance for the Charleston Boat Show was down "only a small percentage from 2008," according to Boat Show Producer Jacqui Bomar.

"We are thrilled that the current recession did not have a significant negative impact on the show’s attendance or the number of transactions," she said in a press release after the show.

Feedback from dealers and vendors has also been positive, according to Bomar of JBM & Associates in Greenville, S.C.

“We didn’t have the highest expectations given the state of the economy, but we were quite happy with our results," said Jim Duncan of Duncan’s Boats in the release. "Buyers were looking for deals and our pricing, combined with rebates from the boat builders and engine manufactures, is what got them excited. It was great to see that boating is important to families, even in a sluggish economy.”

Duncan reported that he sold several boats at this year’s event.

The Charleston Boat Show is held in January each year. Next year’s 30th anniversary show is scheduled for Jan. 22 to 24 at the Charleston Area Convention Center Complex.
