Apologies for the old response to this thread. My experience with Mercuiser Cone Clutch, is that if you don't use Mercuiser or Quicksilver High Perfomance gear fluid the Cone clutch will fail. Apparently the Performance version of the fluid has a friction modifier which is needed for the clutch...
