    Boating License

BTW...just finished the exam. Scored 59 out of 60. No recurrent courses for NYS. So happy that it's out of my way. ONE LONG BLAST!

    Boating License

As the old saying goes, and it's applicable to various situations, Size does Matter. If you have a tight bend to navigate, then one LONG blast. Or:

    Boating License

True or false: When a stand-up paddle boater is in the area, and is wearing the proper clothing to be seen, a powerboater must always approach from the stern or downstream.

Here's another statement that raises a question: "A prudent boater always has extra line and chain on hand, just in case!" How many have extra chain on board? I don't. I have 5 feet of heavy chain on my anchor then 70ft of line. Actually, I'm going to replace that line to 100 feet. It's...

    Boating License

Currently plowing through the course. Found this moments ago: "Now that you are familiar with "The Rules," go out and use them in passing, meeting, and crossing situations you find on the water. You may get many puzzled looks from inexperienced boaters with no training or testing."

I'm behind skd. I had interpreted that I needed to complete the course within 2025. But my friend says it should have been completed by 2025 [New York]. In NY, it is supposedly free. But he told me that he is "blocked" by a DONATION request and cannot get in to take the course. I haven't tried...

    Detroit Boat Show 2025

Prices of everything is outta whack. The newly constructed home next to mine went for $540,000. Its not very big, 1 story, crawl space for a basement and no attic. It's nuts. Even if I won the lotto, I don't think I'd buy a boat simply because I "remember" what the good old days cost.

If Canada becomes the 51st state...IF

I'm assuming the prices are similar now are due to the increase in minimum wage here. I think its $15.50/hr outside of New York City. The businesses can't afford to keep prices the same and absorb the loss so therefore they must raise the prices to pay for the increase in wage. I expect that...

    Coolers

I don't recall the mfr'r of my larger cooler. It is medium size. I don't use it very much as I don't spend a lot of time overnighting somewhere. But it is really useful on my Toronto overnights. An 8lb bag of ice will last me two days with some ice left over. Ice remains in the bag until a...

If Canada becomes the 51st state...IF

Back in 2018 while Trump was President, I was sitting on the beach in Toronto. I think I had my US Flag displayed on my boat [a small one]. A Canadian citizen came up to me and started literally bitching at me because of his negative attitude towards Trump. I just pretended to be paying...

If Canada becomes the 51st state...IF

With all the talk on the news about Canada becoming the 51st state, at first I thought it might not be a good idea. But I began to think about it from a boaters point of view. How much easier would it be to be able to enter into Canadian waters and not have to bother calling Customs and having...

    Idiots with boats

My Alpha One has given me a few scary moments. Usually when entering the slip. My Alpha One does not like in any way continuous rapid shifter movement from any position when trying to enter a slip thus rendering it useless. Sometimes it gets locked up going forward or reverse. Never seems to get...

    Knee replacement surgery

Getting old really sucks as everything is slowly falling apart. My boat is running better than me. Maybe 10 years ago, I had some knee surgery but it was a nodule growing within the knee, not the knee itself. The problem was if he trimmed it from the ligament, it would eventually grow back...

    Seat repair

I Is this who you're speaking of? After checking locations, there are none in NY, Pa or OH. But there are several in Canada that are close to me. My boat is in storage for the winter so maybe I'll get in contact with them in early Spring. https://www.newcreations.com/what-we-restore/

That turned out nice. I have a spot on mine that could use a nice repair like that instead of reupholstery.

    Merc I/o Winterize issue

How do you warm the engine first and then open the drains without cooking your hands? Assuming you're going to add AF.

    Merc I/o Winterize issue

To me the easiest way to tackle this is get a new impeller [you might need it anyways] and a new muff. I just used the West Marine 5 gal container and pumped in 5 gallons of antifreeze. The container sits above the drive so the antifreeze pushes down rather than the engine trying to pull it up...

    The last run

I guess I've decided to keep the boat for now. We'll see how things go next season. Getting the boat prepped for winter kinda brought back that "Zen thing" and reattached me to having it. So we'll see.

    The last run

Here are a couple of pictures in my last run. It was on the west end of the Erie Canal. It was a bit cold but worth the run. Lots of boats along the canal at Tonawanda/N Tonawanda. Several Canadian boats there as well. The biggest boat on the far right is mine. The Maple tree is for the...
