How to clean boat's bottom to end the season?

Here is my boat with a partially complete acid bath. The 721 bottom treatment did a good job of protecting my hull. No extreme slime or zebra muscles. The bath is easy to do, it just takes time.

    Winter cover

I was fortunate enough to find a storage barn about 25 miles away. The low cost of storage undercuts the cost to drive out there and back. Most of the storage areas that are near me are outrageously expensive. If I had to pay that, I'd sell the boat. While I'm not an environmental radical I am...

Donating a boat. How easy is it?

Thanks for the reply. I'll look it over.

Donating a boat. How easy is it?

Due to some incidents at the marina, it has really worn me down. Some shit never ends. I love my boat especially this year as it is humming right along even on Lake Erie. But the responsibility to maintain it among many other things associated with it.......its starting to really get at me. I...

    October Boating

Up here in Buffalo it is definitely not 90! hahaha. We are lucky if we are seeing upper 60's. Due to the upcoming forecast along with the marina closing early next week, tomorrow and Friday will be my last days of operation in Lake Erie. If the weather improves between now and Nov. 1st, I may...

    Outdrive service

Years ago, when I cooked my engine that flapper had been destroyed and I randomly found pieces of it falling into the outdrive and had to pull the pieces out through the prop. To keep that from happening again, I watch the temp gauge like a hawk. Especially now as sea weed is floating all over...

    Fuel gauge

I also ran out of gas in my second year. The gauge was always fairly accurate but the sending unit was not. The gauge was down to 1/8th [which I learned was empty] and I was headed home. I was going to take a different route but decided to take the shortest route with a low tank of gas. I made...

    Fuel gauge

I just topped my tank off today, still holding at 7gal/hour. I looked at the gas gauge at dead rise and predicted 55 gallons. I put in 50.1. Not bad for accuracy. 75% of my running time is at cruise settings of 3200rpm @30mph. In the beginning, I wasn't cruising so much as now. More idling as...

    Fuel gauge

When I used to fly, the Cessna fuel gauges were all over the place. We always had to refer to the manual to check fuel burn rate to determine the length of the flight. I do the same thing with my boat. Fortunately my sending unit is pretty accurate. But I still keep an eye on fuel burn in case...

How to clean boat's bottom to end the season?

As for cleaning the bottom at the end of the season, I give it an acid bath the same way I put treatment on it. Raise and lower the boat and trailer. I take a paint pad and apply it. This minimizes drip. Then flush it like hell including the trailer.

How to clean boat's bottom to end the season?

My boat sits on bunks. The previous owner clearly didn’t treat or clean the boat where it sat on the bunks. The way my trailer is designed, I cannot remove the boat and put it on stands. The only way to get at these areas is to raise the boat and then lower the trailer. I learned this from a...

    Check engine light?

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question but it does remind me of a second incident of hitting weeds [first incident cracked the exhaust manifolds]. I was cruising up the Niagara River and as I scanned my instruments, I saw my temp gauge climbing rapidly. I'm flipping out and saying, "Oh no...

    Fuel Vapor smell

Can you access where your fuel sender is located beneath the floor? Is it sealed properly? Mine gave me a problem many years ago but whatever sealant I used, it is still working. Lucky me, the sending unit is still pretty accurate. Denny and I swapped out the old filler line but we did it...

    1999 Chaparral 2330

My 1987 235 does the opposite. When it is a cold start and I have to pump the shifter while cranking, it will sometimes rise to 2000rpm. Then I'll adjust the shifter to a lower rpm. If my engine is warm from a recent run, all I have to do is turn the key and it starts and settles at 900rpm...

Gel coat discussion-I don’t get it.

Never heard of those pin holes before. It amazes me that these areas have lasted nearly 10 years without fading while the rest of the boat, after two attempts to "regenerate" it, keeps fading. Too much work now. Thanks for the info

Gel coat discussion-I don’t get it.

I’m not going to get involved in another gel coat battle but I am interested in opinions. I wish my whole boat looked like those scratch areas.

Gel coat discussion-I don’t get it.

Many years ago while returning to my slip the wind caught my boat and pushed me into an outboard boat with its engine fully raised. Needless to says it caused a large gash into the gelcoat. There was also lengthy key scratch along side as well. I took plenty of wet sand paper to try and...

    Stern Anchor?

I finally made my trip this year to Toronto Island. I initially tied up at the mooring wall but on the second day, I anchored out by the beach. I used the navy anchor off the bow and the small fluke off the stern. The stern line was at a 45 degree angle. The wind picked up a little bit to 10kts...

    questions

It also sounds like the problem came after you put gas in. You should check with other boaters at your marina to see if they have a similar problem. Did you really run out of gas? I envy you owning a Sig 270. Ever since I first saw one at the Toronto boat show 10+ years ago, I said to myself...

    Lake Erie Alligator sighted!

I just saw this news item and watched the video. I was skeptical at first. Thought it was a sneaker or a toy floating in the water. Then the tail came to the surface. Hope they find it soon! I wonder how fast it can swim to Buffalo...
