    New Boat Owner

I haven't really taken a look at it. Will I have to learn about sailing and PWC along with boating?

    New Boat Owner

Here in NYS, "they" have been slowly making everybody take the course. I've been able to grandpa along for several years but in 2025, everybody has to take it.

    She floats

It's been many years since I've been to Long Point. Once with my dad in his Bayliner and once with my Chap [launched from Port Dover]. I recall back in 2001, just before 911, I flew from Buffalo, along the Lake Erie shoreline and out to Long Point. You could see the sand bar in places that...

    Oil change

My engine holds 5 quarts. But I never seem to pump out more than 4. Reaching for the drain plug is too difficult with a hot engine.

From happy to miserable in just 15 minutes

I was maybe 10 years old when I saw a tire change onto a rim. I saw him swab some kinda liquid onto the tires beads and then watched him mount it. I just assumed it was some kind of adhesive, not a lubricant. Never thought a tire would hold under such extreme conditions without it.

    Whale vs Boat

My heart skipped a beat or two. I initially thought it was my boat! Holy snake bite! Thankfully it isn’t mine. This would make me sell my boat.

Just picked up the trailer. New leaf spring suspension. 4 new tires. Up graded from c to d (stronger sidewalls) and a Freon charge to the truck. $1650. Now just waiting for a good stretch of calm weather and start towing into Canada. 👍

From happy to miserable in just 15 minutes

Probably back in 2009 or so when I was a lot stronger, I had my first boat trailer flat tire. Not like the shredding this time.....just a flat. Anyways, those lug nuts were on so tight I spun the wheel. I'm kinda laughing, how in the hell am I supposed to get the lugs nuts off it the tire is...

From happy to miserable in just 15 minutes

Problem being solved as I write this. Over the weekend I got my nephew [younger and stronger] to help me out. But even he couldn't get that last lug nut off. We just kept scratching our heads trying to figure it out. I walked back to my truck to dig out the tools to change a tire on my truck and...

From happy to miserable in just 15 minutes

On my car I can remove my lugs that are torqued to 125lbs. But the trailer and my truck are torqued waay beyond that. Thank goodness I have never needed a tire change on the truck. I simply couldn’t do it.

I have to say these tires are pretty good. The destroyed tire never stopped turning. There are no skid marks anywhere on the expressway (I found the chunk of tread), off ramp or parking area. Rim still looks good even with the balance tabs. Hopefully a happy update tomorrow.

By the time I made the call it was around 7:30. They did find one person but I declined because he wanted my CC and charge it $250 before I even get back to the boat. Plus I didn’t know if the front tire was going flat which would have canceled everything and he walks away with 250. The boat is...

From happy to miserable in just 15 minutes

Well, what a day. After 2-1/2 weeks waiting for my boat to be repaired I went and picked it up later this afternoon. Hitched it up, paid my bill and off to the marina. While on the way, I hit a bump. Never saw it. But it caused the boat and trailer to rock up and down on the leaf springs. I...

Lower unit oil-Black and smells burnt

I had the boat out of the water for a minor check up including changing the lower gear oil. About 20 hours of use. He says it came out clean and nothing to worry about. Just change it every year. Which I will.

    Whale vs Boat

A few years before the virus I was down at the other end of Lake Erie…by car. I took the car ferry over to Kelly’s island. One of the signs I read was about fresh water snakes. Then I actually see one swimming towards the dock. Haha. I left. I’m like Indiana jones….i don’t like snakes. You...

    Stern Anchor?

Haha, yeah I know, I solved that problem by not bothering to go out into Lake Erie in more than 1 foot. The boat handles it well, but I don't.

    Stern Anchor?

When I anchored with the fluke and just a 100ft rope in windy/wavy conditions, I would usually pull it up onto the cuddy, lift it over the windshield and lower it to the floor and then I'd hop over the windshield and head back to calm conditions and then store it. But now, with the Navy anchor...

I'll keep my annoying gelcoat instead of a "sticker."

Came across this short vid. At first I thought the boater hit a big fish. Turns out, his paint job is pealing off the boat. As annoying as my gelcoat is in trying to keep it looking good, after seeing the vid, I'll keep mine even if it fades all the way.
