    Finally made it to Toronto

There is another quirk with this boat. While anchored from the bow and if there is a moderate breeze (+/- 10kts or more) the boat will swing as much as 180 degrees. If I’m in shallow water I usually drop a second anchor from the stern water ski eye and that usually takes care of it. But try...

    Boating Oops

I would probably visit this once or twice. But the huge amount of boaters would make me concerned for the safe operation of my own boat. And, how many boaters do you think have a toilet…..onboard?

    Finally made it to Toronto

I am usually anchored off the bow. So when it’s time to depart with the engine already running, I am kneeling on the bow, pull the anchor, get it stable on the deck, then climb over the glass frame into the capt chair and throttle up. Once I’m in the clear of other boats, I throttle back to...

    Finally made it to Toronto

The launch ramp I use is called Lake Promenade WSW of Toronto. It is exactly 100 miles from my home. Actual water mileage might be around 5 miles or so. This is a nice area and a nice ramp. Not chaotic at all. There is also a marina there and I’ve overnighted there several times. But the next...

    Finally made it to Toronto

If the winds and waves are calm, I’ve anchored as close as 10 feet from the beach and about 2 foot depth. But with that comes a potential problem. All the other arriving boaters are now anchored in front of the boat making it very difficult to leave if needed. Once, the winds and waves picked...

    Finally made it to Toronto

While leaving the island that evening, I just couldn’t resist catching a Porter Airlines Dash 8 Q400 arriving overhead. It’s the cherry on top for me.

    Finally made it to Toronto

After 4 years of waiting due to the virus, border closing and other annoying blocks, I trailered into Canada and up to Toronto. My timing was good. No waiting at the border. Minimal road construction and traffic on the QEW which means no traffic jams. And piece of cake launching. What a...

    Drive Unit Shifting "Firmly"

While I can't help you out, my Alpha One is a real clunker! Forward or reverse it clunks into gear. What mine doesn't like is rapid shifting into and out of gear during a tight move into my slip. I've had my drive get stuck in gear and I've had to shut off the engine before driving into the...

    Karma Friday...

Taking this a bit off topic, I'm beginning to despise plastic. A couple of years ago, I bought a Taylor umbrella from West Marine. It was cheaper than a Bimini. The canvas they used is very good but the skeletal frame work is plastic. It broke only after 5 or 6 times of usage. I used some wire...

Replacing a 20amp fuse is about as inexpensive as you can get. Always nice to be back in the water.

Pics that make you go 'hmmm'

I recently saw on video where a guy drove his boat right up to and into his van. It may have been a short on YouTube. EDIT: Found it.

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

After 20 hours of boating the paint is still in place no evidence of grinding. Thankful for that.

Years ago I had a similar starting problem although I don’t recall the problem as complex as yours. I replaced the ignition switch and that took care of it. Try the least expensive route to eliminate possibilities.

    2003 Chaparral 200SSi

How many times have you tried to start the engine [but it wouldn't] with the temp above 100 vs how many times when the temp was at or below 100?

    A Smokey Sunset

Just a few seconds it disappeared into the smoke and 8 minutes before official sunset. On the other hand, this is a reasonable simulation of what Beijing, China goes thru every day.

Finally an easy way to keep my bottom clean

Sitting in a marina for 6 months breeds some nasty growth. Bottom treatment is really necessary. The treatment I used to use didn't really eliminate it but either slowed the growth or made it easy to clean off. One day nearing the end of the season and nearing the usefulness of the treatment...

Alternator-what are good signs that it is on the out

Before I hooked up the charger, the battery displayed 12.6v on the test meter. Then I hooked up the charger and it also read 12.6v before I hit the charge button. Shortly after that the charger indicated 13.1v and a bit later was back at 12.6v. I presume the battery is okay as it is only 1year...

Alternator-what are good signs that it is on the out

Last month, as I was "inspecting" everything before I launched, I noticed that the drive belts for the alternator and power steering were showing wear, especially the alternator. So I replaced them. At first I don't think I had the alternator tightened down enough. While out, I thought I caught...
