New owner, need a couple things - 2002 Chaparral Sunesta 243

The last owner probably threw out the original carpet, out of frustration. The bottom material disintegrates into small black particles that end up all over the place, looking like someone went nuts with pepper mill!

New owner, need a couple things - 2002 Chaparral Sunesta 243

If by 'cover' you mean a tonneau style for keep dust out, or trailering, you'll probably have to find a local custom boat interior shop that uses a high quality fabric such as Sunbrella. I would make sure that they provide snaps to fit the poles that will help hold up the middle of the cover to...

New owner, need a couple things - 2002 Chaparral Sunesta 243

I used SnapinCarpet.com (AKA Custom Marine Carpet LLC) for a custom fit carpet. They can help you with the templates for proper fit, and a kit for placing the snaps where you want them (you'll need to do that yourself unless you can find a local place that will do that part for you). They also...

    2004 Sunesta 252 Transducer location

I'm looking for the ideal transom location to place the transducer for the Sinrad/Lowrance sonar. I've seen several videos that provide an understanding of the critical concepts, but none of them are specific to hull of the 2004 Sunesta. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in...

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

I really like the idea of a separate buss bar. It could make things a lot more accessible. (y)(y)

Indeed, there was. 👍 The unit just won’t turn on. 😐

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

I tried so many ways to get the unit started, pressing and releasing slowly, pressing quickly, etc., but no luck. In hindsight, using the bus bar probably would have been easier, but it is a real pain to access, being so far behind everything. :-( I'm looking forward to getting this thing...

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

OK, my Simrad saga continues... I used the windshield wiper switch to supply power to the Simrad; now, I can switch it on from there, independently. I verified that there is power at the back of the unit, but it won't turn on! Is there a certain trick to starting this up, or is my unit...

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

Wow, that's awesome!!! Someday, I'll get a fabricator to do something that would be more fully integrated into my helm, but that's for another day...

2004 Sunesta 242/Bravo3: changing starboard trim cylinder

Hi, everyone, Does anyone have access to a simple video that demonstrates how to replace the starboard trim cylinder, including bleeding the hydraulic lines? I googled this, and all that I've seen are videos for Alphas, etc. I know this is pretty simple, I just want to make sure to cover all...

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

Hi, Iggy, I tried to access that link, but I was blocked. ;-/ Anyway, I want to find a switch to provide power to my Simrad and a VHF radio. Te Simrad will be part of the NENA2K network.. I believe that I can do it by utilizing the unused wiper switch. I just don't know enough about the...

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

OK, fellow boaters. Back at it again after getting my 2004 Sunesta 252 'summer-ized'? I left my last project unfinished after running out of time. I'm still looking for anyone that might be able to tell me if they're familiar with the wiring in the console of this model. I'm looking for a...

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

One more power source, however, not switched... I am considering the accessories outlet, which is where I usually plug in my phone charger, conveniently located to the left of the steering wheel. There are two yellow and one red wire:

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

Yet, another update, I removed the panel, which contained several switches, one of which said 'Wipers', which I assume is not being used, since I have no wipers. The first image is the back of the panel. I noticed that there are wires attached to it, some of which (purple and yellow) seem to...

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

Another update... I looked around the helm instrument cluster and noticed that there is a switch to the very right of the steering wheel that is labeled 'wipers'. Since I don't have wipers, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to dedicate this switch to all the electronics (Simrad...

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

Just a little update... I've installed the NMEA 2K backbone, connected the Simrad to it, but haven't installed the power or the Lowrance sonar (transducer) yet. A post that I read in another forum brought to my attention what I think would be worth considering... "Many boats are rigged with...

Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

I had Boat Outfitters use Starboard to fabricate five pieces that I will assemble. They will be able to router all the edges that I requested. I will use the existing cupholders to stabilize a 4" x 12" platform that will support the gimbal bracket that supports the Simrad unit. This is a...
