Bunk trailer Rollers

The original owner to my boat long ago never cleaned the bottom where it sat on the bunks. Even after I started cleaning the whole bottom, it took a long time to get it equally clean to the rest of the boat.

I learned from another Chap owner from the previous forum on how to jack the boat up and clean it. Basically, put two floor jacks underneath, one towards the bow and one at the stern. Raise it up. If your trailer suspension is like mine, this won't separate the boat from the trailer. The next step is to deflate all the tires so the whole trailer drops down. Once they are separated, I'll put one or two 2x4's in between the boat and trailer to stabilize it. Then start climbing around underneath to clean and apply bottom treatment.

Make sure you use jack stands once the boat is raised. Don't depend on the floor jack.

I went with rollers, one reason was cleaning and painting. With rollers I would clean and repaint the bottom. than move the boat a few inches using a come-a-long. Clean and paint where the rollers where. Than use the winch to move the boat back. I did this with the trailer attached to my truck.

I honestly don't like the idea of lifting the boat. Its too easy to get hurt. If done wrong, you could damage the boat. But thats me...

Launched it today. That front roller moved up it worked a lot better. I’ll have to try jacking it up in the fall when she’s back out View attachment 2227
