Last time out when we ran out of gas…..
The engine seemed to sound funny and seemed under more load. Pulled the outdrive today to service it before winter and found the problem

That's a strange one. Glad you found it now, at the end of the season.

Years ago, when I cooked my engine that flapper had been destroyed and I randomly found pieces of it falling into the outdrive and had to pull the pieces out through the prop. To keep that from happening again, I watch the temp gauge like a hawk. Especially now as sea weed is floating all over the marina and down along the river. Enough to clog the intakes.
