    How Dumb

Parking ticket? Doesn't this tell you indirectly that the boat exceeds the Jeeps tow limit?

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

I took a couple of videos but they are too large to post here. I’ll load it up to YouTube at some point. Anyways, I put a slip of paper in between the drive and the arm, raised and lowered the drive several times and the paper didn’t tear. So I guess I’m ok, at least on the trailer. I will get...

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

Finally we are into the beginning of a full week without rain! Here is a short video. There is slight movement. There is no movement of the drive within the gimble. But the drive AND the gimble move a little bit. I will do some other testing this morning.

Can't figure out why this boater got so close to the wall. But, at least they tried.

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

That's what I'm hoping for. It may not be, but I've never seen one side worn and the other not. This weekend we'll see.

Funny Picture Thread, Post em here.

What's with the expansion of the outdrives? Is this just a fad or is there some advantage to having all of these engines.

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

When I got home this afternoon an idea pops into my head. Take a piece of paper and see if it will slide In between the drive and the arm. Surprisingly, it did. So that means they are not touching. When the weather clears later this week I will tape a piece of paper in between them and raise and...

    How Dumb

NY shows a paddle and hook as recommended. I have both on mine. The hook is used all the time but the paddle is rarely used as it is useless trying to paddle a 5000lb boat. In this situation, either one would have helped.

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

Checking my logbook and other pictures, the last time I hit anything was during the 2018 season. The arm above is a replacement as you can see in the picture below that the arm is broken off. I will check for loose nuts and bolts. What is the torque requirement for these nuts? I've read many...

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

(Sigh). I had hoped for a non-issue start of the season but to no avail. I picked up the boat from storage and inspected the drive for any tinkering like I found last year. All is good. But….. I found some excessive wear between the starboard side of the drive and its guide (don’t know what’s...

    An usual project with concrete

The wood would probably be easier to deal with. The other little quirk is that it would be sitting on the other side of the property line. As it is now, the owner doesn't mind that the boat is a couple of feet over the line. The concrete tie might change his mind as it is more permanent and more...

A sure sign it's about boating season. Gas prices go UP.

I'll stick with my single engine 23 footer....7gph at cruise. The direction this country is going and my age, this will be my first and last boat. It's just getting too expensive. Since I've owned the boat in 2008, the value I get out of it has exceeded the cost of operating it. But now, the...

    An usual project with concrete

When my boat/trailer is parked at my house, and to make room for other movements, I have the starboard side of the trailer wheels sitting on an old railroad tie. This tie is also used to make the boat sit level. The tie is from the former West Shore RR from long ago. The tie is around 50 years...

A sure sign it's about boating season. Gas prices go UP.

Due to circumstances I have my Focus and F150. The 150 is basically just to tow the boat. Otherwise it doesn't move much. So I top the tank and that's it for nearly a month. My Focus is my primary vehicle and I get 34mph around town.....40 on the hwy. The mileage for the 150 is 10mpg to tow the...

A sure sign it's about boating season. Gas prices go UP.

Well from this season forward, I won’t be stuck buying marina gasoline. So from now on it will be mostly autogas but even that is climbing. The Mobil station down the street was very competitively low priced at 3.29. Then it creeped up to 3.32 and held there for awhile. Then 3.39 and then just...

Well, this doesn’t have anything to do with boating, but keep your eye on the ball.

    The end is near

I have been in the lower Niagara River a couple of times. Once with my dad in his 18foot Bayliner and once with mine. The trip with my dad was shortly after the guy fishing got sucked down under and drowned. My dads boat and especially mine, had no problems. As long as you keep your speed up and...

    The end is near

I don't mind trailering at all. In fact, I kinda like it. I have several areas to launch and each one gives me a choice depending on the winds. If the winds are relatively calm and therefore a calm Lake Erie, I'll launch where I would have slipped. Only a few minutes and I'm in Lake Erie. If...
