    Merc I/o Winterize issue

Mine is a 2000. Thanks for the video. His engine compartment is quite spacious. I can barely get the battery in and out, and getting a look see at the transom is near impossible.

    Merc I/o Winterize issue

The only blue drain screw I cannot set, nor find at this point, is the one under the engine. If you can see the blue wing nuts you can wear a glove and get them off, but the one I can't find'/see is the big issue.

    Merc I/o Winterize issue

I'd say this method also depends upon where you live. My boat is on the VA/NC border. Sits about 2 ft above the water all winter, and the water doesn't get below 40 degrees. That fact that the air temp rarely gets below 32, and that the boat sits above 40 degree water, I think the muff method is...

    Merc I/o Winterize issue

This is basically my set up, only with a 5 gallon bucket. I put it on the swim platform, so it is above the drive and flows down.

    Merc I/o Winterize issue

Impeller is 2 years old. Not sure what an open coolant system is, but the engine only uses water drawn in from the lake to cool the engine.

    Merc I/o Winterize issue

Merc Cruiser 5.0 L I/O I have been doing my own winterization for about 13 years now. I get the engine warmed up, put on muffs that are connected to a 5 gal bucket of antifreeze and run 5 - 6 gallons in until it starts spitting out. This year, I could not get the muffs to work and have the...

    Throttle Cable/Neutral and Noise

Not sure if my boat info will show up below : 2000 Chapparrel 232. Merc 250 hp, merc alpha 1 drive. Late last year, after going into neutral and shutting off. The boat would not start. I would need to put it in gear, them back to neutral, then it would start. This year, first time out, same...

    Fuel Sending Unit issue

Got this all working now. May need a slight adjustment, the rod is a two piece construction, and I may shorten it to read closer to E than it actually is, for peace of mind. The problem was with the 2 piece construction, the float was not lying flat on the fuel. it was tipped, so didn't register...

    Fuel Sending Unit issue

I installed a new fuel sending unit about 2 months ago. My tank had well over 1/2 tank in it, and it worked fine. I always kept the gass above 1/2 tank, until this past weekend. Once it got below 1/2 tank, the guage started bouncing from E to 1/2 tank. Got back to the dock. Check all wires and...

    Fuel Gauge Replacement

I used a Moeller gauge. I looked at my old gauge, and did not see any manufacturing information. I think the electronic Ohm settings are consistent across senders. There is a Nut that the instructions state to tighten to 15 lbs. I don't have a torque wrench so I did what I thought was good.

    Fuel Gauge Replacement

I am no expert, no boat mechanic, but a pretty handy guy. Replacing the gauge and the sending unit are two easy things to do. Easy to access them and change them out. My gauge was a Sierra, and was about $35. The sending unit I bought was a Moeller, and about $40. There is a way to test which...

    Fuel Gauge Replacement

Update : I replaced the sending unit. It isn't a hard job to replace. Took about 2 hrs due to reconfigure of wiring (more later) and going slow to be extra careful of what I was doing. It was the kind of sending unit that you need to adjust the arm based on tank size. Made the float just...

    Fuel Gauge Replacement

I did not test the sending unit. Think I'll get the new sending unit and go from there. I watched this vid: and it seems pretty straight forward.
