Can you help me identify this engine?

The boat is a 1991 Chaparral 1800SL It's been sitting for years. I'm pretty sure the engine is going to be junk(it sounded like a diesel when I heard it run, tons of knocking) but I'd like to know what it is so I can research either parts or swappable replacement engines. I don't see any model designators on the engine but I might be missing them.

Any help Identifying would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if there's any better info I should be providing.

It is gas powered.
Chap listed a 4.3 L V6 and a 5.0 L V8 For that model and year in an archives brochure.
Count the number of spark wires you have, and that should answer your questions.

Hi there Denny and thanks for the help,

As referenced in this pic, it's an inline 4 cylinder:

I understand what you are saying. However that is a picture of the engine that's in the boat. That was why I was asking for engine identification based on the images.
I would copy down your hull ID number and call Chap with it, maybe they will have the info you need. Ya, pictures don't lie, got a few unanswered questions that need answers. Keep us posted, please.
