Same here. Closest one is Columbus OH. Their sportsman shows are very limited on boats. Mostly campers, some fishing boats and pontoons. Cincinatti was similar when I was at theirs 8 years ago or so. Cleveland's was awesome last I saw it (awesome as in HUGE).

Everything is shrinking, or disappearing.
I met my girl in the summer of 92, and that started me going to the Cleveland Boat Show.
In 93 the boat show took up the entire IX Center main exhibit floor which is 985,000. sq. ft. I think the Queen Mary was there. LoL
Then it started to shrink, down to 1/2 of the area.
Then it shared with a sportsman's show, each got 1/4 of the 1/2.
One year it shared 1/2 of the hall with a sportsman's show and a home remodel's show, each got 1/3 rd. of the 1/2.
They sold an all inclusive package, or you could buy an individual ticket.
No way can I afford the new boats, nor would I ever break the bond that I have with my girl.
However it is nice to look at some eye candy on a cold snowy day and think about the future days to come on the water, and reminisce of the past ones.

I feel the same about automobiles, or anything else. I want to be 2nd, let the other guy take the big hit, and all the trips back to try to make it right.

Agree with both of you on new boats, cars or trucks. I've bought new but only in extreme circumstances, when a nearly new one that I like is not available and I need it now. Otherwise I take my time and find a deal I can live with. Works for me.
But I still enjoy going to boat shows. When we had the houseboat the kids got us tickets to the big houseboat show in Louisville KY. What a show. Huge boats. 500k to a million were common and this was in 2010. Hey, we all can dream. LOL Mainly I look for things the new boats have that are possible to add to my boat. Some features are build in and impossible others can work on my girl.

We have a boat show in Buffalo and Chap is usually there. I have been to Toronto once years ago. Thats where I discovered the Sig270 and fell hook, line and sinker. But then I saw the price! Not likely to go over the border yet so I won't likely go to the show there. But CLE looks interesting. Something to do. I have sworn my oath to my boat and will not separate from it for any reason unless death do us part.

It is winter and the start of another non-boating week-end. So I thought that I would share the1 & only time a purchased a new car.
Now I know the size of the numbers are way apart, but how they fall is what it is all about.
1968 I was working at a Chry- Ply Dealership and seen this 1965 Ford on the used car lot and was going to buy it. The owner heard about it, and said no, we will sell you a new car at cost. So a 68 Ply Satellite that I looked at listed for $3,300 and they sold it to me for $2,800. Now I drove it almost exactly 1 year to date, and traded it in on a 1 year old 1967 Chrysler 300, which was 5 times the car the Satellite was. They gave me $1,900 for my Ply and sold me the Chry for 2,700. So that meant that I had lost 1/3 of the value in one year. If I had waited 1 year, I could have bought a car with 5 times the amenities, for $100 less.

I was told that my girl listed for 27,000 in 1985 the first owner bought her new for 21,000, 9 years later I paid 13,500.
I can't even imagine how the numbers would fall today. (even without the pandemic)

Just sitting around counting the days till the boat show, and thought I would throw this out for those that took time to read it.
And see if anyone else has had any experiences like this.

I was in the last year of the draft. They drew the bdays to see the order we'd be drafted in the summer of 71. My number was 40. I was in college but did not get the deferment cause I was not real bright. In Oct 71 I decided to sign up with the Navy rather than be forced into the Army. Navy reserve gave me the same two year active hitch as the army would have so I went for it. I was scheduled to leave for boot camp early November.

At the time I had a 66 Chevelle convertible I'd bought in 1970 for $595. It had 96k on it when i bought it. Great car but with going in service I decided to get a newer car. One of the dumbest trades I made was trading that car in and getting 300 for it. Sure wish I still had it. But I bought a 72 Rally Nova 3spd on the floor 350 engine for 2200. Loved that car too but I didn't keep it. Sure wish I had it and my 66 chevelle convertible in my garage now. I price them both on occasion. 25k to 75k for a frame up restore. Way to rich for my blood. Besides a boat is much more fun than any car.

I read that the Detroit Boat Show in January had been postponed to 2023 due to inventory shortages
Wow! Thanks, I always liked the Detroit Show. I would drop mama off at the casino, and I would hop on the people mover and go to the show, on senior's day during the week, very light traffic.

Dear Friends,

You're invited to join Ohio Boat PAC for a breakfast reception at the Cleveland Boat Show with Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted on Saturday, March 19th from 8:00am-10:00am. This is before the show opens for the day.

The Governor and Lt. Governor were leaders in keeping our industry open during the unprecedented pandemic and have been dedicated to the health of Ohio's waterways. While other states closed up docks, Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted pushed to keep our docks open and support the essential service and delivery sides of our businesses as well as access to the water.

We are excited to welcome them to the Cleveland Boat Show and hope you are able to join us!

RSVP is necessary and space is limited at this event. Please do not wait to secure your seat today and support DeWine - Husted for Ohio.

Made it to the Cleveland Boat Show Saturday. No name boats represented to speak of. You would be like a kid in a candy store if you were looking for a fishing boat, all shapes and sizes. Some fishing hands on displays. Pontoon boats,, nothing exotic. It looks like the market has gone to open bow boats of all kinds. Chris & Lyman restored boat displays. No Coast Guard, DNR was there, Boarder Patrol had a spot, never did see the officer. Stuff and things for the kids to do. The usual guy selling something for your house, this guy was selling roofs. There were a few marinas and clubs there. A few gadget venders. They had a Malibu Wake boat there for 189,00 and advertised one for only 323,000, I bought 2. (Lol) All in all it was a nice show, and something to do on a Saturday. I know that I have missed somethings, but I really wasn't looking for anything in particular, I just wanted to be part of the nautical world. I talked with a vender there that I know from buying me little inflatable years ago, and he said that they made the isles wider to make the show look bigger, which was actually nice, because you were not bumping into others. No matter what, it was far better then last years show.
