STEVENSVILLE, Md. — J.J. Marie retired as president of Zodiac North America last month with plans to split the company into two separate divisions. As a result, the firm's recreational boating business will relocate from Maryland to South Carolina, where Zodiac plans to increase annual production from 600 to 900 boats by next year, according to a report in the Annapolis Capital.

Zodiac's recreational division is now headed by Howard French, who told the Capital that 8 out of the 14 recreational division employees have either committed to moving to South Carolina or plan to. Zodiac opened a manufacturing plant in South Carolina about two years ago, which will double in size to 80,000 square feet by summer, the article said.

Steven Seigel nows heads Zodiac's military division, which will remain in Stevensville with a staff of 15, the paper said. Seigel told the Capital it was important for the military division to remain near Washington, D.C.

As for Marie, he is happy to step aside and leave the company to "more aggressive, more imaginative" people, according to the Capital.
