How do my risers and manifolds look?

Yeah the boat lives in salt water year round. Pacific Northwest. Put them back on, cleaned the heat exchanger and repainted it, this engine now runs 4 deg C cooler than the starboard engine!

How do my risers and manifolds look?

I'll be cleaning up the mating surfaces and repainting the outsides before reinstalling, that was just a quick cleanup of the insides.

How do my risers and manifolds look?

My port engine was overheating slightly, figured it was time to replace the manifolds and risers as I haven't done it in the 2 years I've owned it, and previous owner (3 years) hadn't done them. Once I cleaned out the gunk, this is what they look like: Seems like there isn't any significant...

    Help diagnosing fuel/electrical issue

The zincs on the trim tabs were on the boat when I bought it, but get to about 50% or less the last 2 years I've replaced them, cheap enough so I don't mind. Interesting how different and how similar our boats were. I prefer that more modern badging on the side there, will probably do that on...

    SX outdrive maintenance.

FWIW, just had my 08 290 Sig out of the water, pulled both drives (DPS-B replaced under warranty around 2012), and I believe they were the original bellows. The boat has been in the salt water since 2017, and I pull the drives up a few times a year to clean the props in the water from the...

    Help diagnosing fuel/electrical issue

I decided to just bite the small bullet and replace the starboard fuel pump again. The one I bought from Amazon had the painted internals (I assume) and its much louder/whinier than the port side pump. Ordered a paintless pump from mancavemechanic and hopefully be done in the next week. Just...

Will give that a go! Will also be keeping spare relays on the boat still, just in case...

    Help diagnosing fuel/electrical issue

Thanks Iggy. What is the voltage I should be getting at the pumps? 14? I'm thinking I will just replace with the good/new Volvo pumps without the painted insides.

    Help diagnosing fuel/electrical issue

Boat is a 2008 Chaparral Signature 290 with Volvo 4.3 OSi-JF engines. This has happened to me twice now. Where my starboard engine dies and will not start while out on the water. Both times it was the fuel pump relay. Both times you could tell the relay was scorched as the plastic had some heat...

Getting to know each other: What do you do for fun in the boating off season?

Skydiving and motorcycles, awesome. I mountain bike a lot, some freediving in the winter, hikes everyday with my 2 Belgian Malinois, have a modern classic 911 I like working on as well. It's actually really enjoyable peice of machinery to wrench on, well engineered and meant to be disassembled...

    Scoop Strainer Thru-Hull?

Interesting. I ordered 2 new Groco seacocks and mushroom fittings and will be putting those on shortly.

    Scoop Strainer Thru-Hull?

Ordered a pair of new bronze seacocks to replace mine. One is bad, but figured I'd do them both. In my Chaparral 290 Sig, one goes through to the Generator, its a standard round thru-hull, bronze. The other is a scoop style thru-hull with a strainer and it feeds both engines raw water system...

Bottom paint - Every Year? PNW Saltwater

Making me jealous! Wish I could. Keep the boat that clean, but that only exists for about a day before she goes back in the water yearly!

Bottom paint - Every Year? PNW Saltwater

Oh interesting. Yeah all good points. I'm. Not familiar with that paint. I'll have the boat out in the next 6 weeks or so to have another look and do the painting. Gotta replace my seacocks too unfortunately.

Bottom paint - Every Year? PNW Saltwater

Thanks! The props I don't mind keeping raw, as I can lean over even in cold weather with a scotchbrite pad and get them pretty much polished up within 30 minutes or so. If they were painted, the paint would just come off I imagine when I do that.
