Installing Simrad NSX/SmartCraft and transducer; 2004 Sunesta 252

I've ordered the gateway from Fox Marine, which will allow me to get all the engine data that I need. I'm also looking into a trim sensor with Yacht D.com, utilizing the existing wires. We'll see...
I have a Lowrance Fluid Level Sensor, Fuel Pack-0, that I want to use for replacing my analog fuel gauge, connecting straight to the N2K backbone, and reading from my Simrad NSX 3009.
Is it possible to disconnect the wires that come from the tank at the existing gauge, and simply connect this fluid level sensor wires to those wires, in order to avoid having to run wires from the sensor all the way to the tank?

I down loaded the manual on the Lowrance Fluid Level Sensor. Most likely, I would say yes. But I would do a temp install to see if it would work.

"Compatible with most sending units that are calibrated between 33 and 240 ohm." Just make sure your sending unit will work within that range.

I would have no way of knowing if my sending unit is "calibrated between 33 and 240 ohm", nor do I know the manufacturer of it. Given that it was recently replaced by a local dealer, I'll just call them and hopefully get some info.
I was hoping I could just connect the wires on the sensor to the wires at the helm...

Sure you do! Use an ohms meter and see what you are reading. Disconnect one sending wire first just in case the guage adds any resistances.

I received my device from Fox Marine, ready to install it. It is designed to be installed in the engine compartment. I would like to be able to mount it to a plate that I can adhere to the fiberglass interior of the engine compartment, avoiding any drilling into the fiberglass. Are there any known adhesives available? I've contacted 3M adhesives division, and they don't recommend anything that could fit an environment where temps could approach 200F.

Just a thought... i would mount a 1/4 to 1/2 inch marine plywood. Grind away about 32 to a 16th of an inch to the glass where the plywood is going. Then use West System epoxy and fiberglass stripes and glass over the plywood. Then screw or bolt the unit to that.

BUT first I would connect the unit and make sure everything works first. You dont want to install the plywood and the unit not work.

Iggy,
I think that's a great idea. I'll see if I can find a Home Depot or local place for marine plywood (maybe treated wood). Going to Amazon for fiberglass.
Thanks so much!

If you can find some Baltic plywood, that is what we use at the canvas shop. It is a higher grade.

I went to Defender.com. I was blocked. I got this:
"You can email the site owner to let them know you were blocked. Please include what you were doing when this page came up and the Cloudflare Ray ID found at the bottom of this page."

I called them. It seems that their site doesn't like my VPN!
I turned it off and was able to get right in. Looks like a great source for boating goodies!
